Andersen events after 2005

Following the success of the 2005 celebrations, several Andersen projects have been extended.

The magic of Hans Christian Andersen can still be experienced in relation to projects nationwide which due to popular demand are set to continue.

Examples of prolonged events:

* A Tivoli Fairytale in Tivoli Gardens, the age-old amusement park in Copenhagen. Experience an extravaganza of marionette, lighting, music and special effects. After sunset, 5-meter tall puppets float over the fountains in front of the Tivoli Concert Hall towards the Open-air Stage. Read more at the Tivoli Gardens website here.

* A village in Andersen’s day / Once Upon A Time (the Funen Village). Rural development during Andersen’s lifetime dramatically changed the way of life in Denmark. A visit to the Funen Village offers engaging insight into day and age of Andersen. Read more at the website of the Odense City Museums here.

* Andersen’s garret in Vingårdsstræde (the Copenhagen department store Magasin Du Nord). The old garret in Vingårdsstræde, where Andersen lived from 1827 - 1828, is currently the only of his Copenhagen homes open to the public. It has been turned into a museum under the auspices of the Odense City Museums. Read more at the official website of the Odense City Museums here.

* Andersen Christmas market in Odense. The Andersen Christmas market is set in Andersen’s old neighbourhood and the event is embraced by local cafés, restaurants, museums, hotels, etc. Read more at the official website of the Andersen Christmas Market here.

* Hans Christian Andersen Was Here - Fairytale Tracks in the Danish Landscape. The initiative was established by the Danish Outdoor Council and aims at identifying as well as granting public access to a number of sites in the Danish landscape which have especially inspired Andersen. Among the initiators are the Fyntour Foundation, Østdansk Turisme, and the Danish Labour Market Holiday Foundation. Read more about the project here.
