HCA NEWS HCA exhibitions in Poland

Yeasterday the inauguration of Hans Christian Andersen's Year in Poland, organized by The Danish Cultural Institute, took place in the National Library in Warsaw. It comprised a.o. openings of two exhibitions.

H.C. Andersen 2005, an exhibition prepared by Odense Bys Museer which presents the writer's life and work, and the exhibition Andersen in Poland concerning the reception of the writers' work in the Polish culture.

The exhibition is prepared in cooperation with The National Library and consists of - historically shown - various editions of the fairy-tales in Poland, original book-illustrations, theatre posters, elements of theatre scenographies, recordings, etc.

Another element of the inauguration is the presentation of a collection of H.C. Andersen's fairy-tales, translated for the first time in the history of Polish reception of H.C. Andersen's work directly from the Danish language.
During the event, actor and film director Jerzy Stuhr, one of the recently nominated H.C. Andersen's Ambassadors in Poland, read one of the writer's less known fairy-tales. Additionally, the children's theatre "Bronisze" perfomed a short play based on Cinderella.

The inauguration is accompanied by following theatre performances in three theatres of Warsaw:

The Tinder Box in the Baj Theatre (30.03-05.04)
The Steadfast Tinsoldier in Guliwer Theatre ( 30.03-01.04)
The Snow Queen in Lalka Theatre (02.04)
